Environmental Culture within the Organization

Cambio climático detalle de imagen

Employees play a key role as change agents in the organization's environmental culture. The Sustainability Policy establishes the importance of actions that promote, build awareness of and support environmentally friendly conduct among our employees both at work and in their daily lives.

In addition to the Chile Without Trash (“Chile Sin Basura”) campaign, Banco de Chile has promoted several activities and volunteer opportunities such as:

In partnership with Corporación Cultiva:

This partnership worked to build eco-participatory spaces providing more green areas and relaxation spaces for institutions helping persons with disabilities and children with cancer. The use of native trees and low-water species was promoted.

Banchile Corredores de Seguros:

The matching campaign “1 Seguro Digital, 1 Árbol” sought to support reforestation in Chile. For each digital purchase of home, health, cancer, personal protection, 360 insurance or any other insurance product with a recurring monthly premium, the subsidiary planted a native tree in 2020 in the customer’s name. This collaborative effort with the Reforestemos Foundation resulted in the planting of 22,437 trees in the Aysén, Biobío and Maule regions.

Climate Strategy Climate

Change is a major challenge currently facing humanity. In this context, Banco de Chile recognizes the importance of managing its GHG emissions and quantifying the three scopes of its carbon footprint.

In 2019 Banco de Chile made the commitment to incorporate climate change into its risk matrix. However, because of the special circumstances this year, that goal was postponed.

The bank’s climate change strategy included signing the Green Agreement launched in 2019 by the Finance Ministry. This agreement is a voluntary commitment by the financial sector, the government and regulators, which defines the general principles regarding the management of risks and opportunities related to climate change in decision making and binds them to take concrete actions in this area. It aims to contribute to financial stability and the achievement of Chile's commitments in climate matters. Its four areas of action are: Governance, Strategy and Opportunities, Risk Management, and Targets and Metrics.

In 2020 the organization participated in more than four sessions of the Green Finance Public-Private Working Group derived from this agreement.
